Memories of Kettering

The adamantine shadow. The raging of the
Maelstrom unleashed upon the main, they that
Broke the drum and clave the callow; black
Clouds hovering – evanescing the sallow stars.
The ghost of Mengele, of harrowing baleful mien,

Doxorubicin splattered over cold white walls.
Insatiable fiends that stole the fawn and fallow night,
Merciless hebenon burning in the veins; bodeful
Waters that enveloped every brook and glimmering
Glade: the maid in menopause, the lawyer with a

Broken brain, the stalwart swimmer floundering –
Shattered souls strewn across wolds diluvial and
Unseen. Whither the unborn babe and the unraveling
Chalice? Lilacs withering, fluttering tattered flags,
The pall of crimson rain. Crushed beneath the

Fury of the insensate charger; the trainee gurning,
The death’s head groaning, vincristine glowering –
A shuddering of soft sparrows. Slaves convulsing
Beyond the Tartarean tallow, vanquished and forlorn,
Of sickly pallid brow, indomitable ramparts of primordial

Power, where bodies are carved like fallen deer
On blackened dew. An intractable glare, red wolves
Raving, the dirge that squelched the dawn and hallowed
Light. Black blood pooling beneath the drowning of
The sacred lamb, the weeping of sad eyes, sinless

Locks cascading – of an altar uncrowned – shimmering
Sands searing across the fathomless hourglass.
And within those impenitent shades of an unnatural
Wight: the vampire howling – with fangs that rent the
Sky – until the last sun’s calling and the last sun’s cry.
