Stars and Bars

I was a little south of State College
close enough to campus to know
that the Stars and Bars I saw
was for professors, out of state students
and folks with Canadian or metro
Philly license plates

What would Thaddeus Stevens say
Lincoln, Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain
Dixie flags for sale at the Sheetz
where I stopped to refuel
and stretch

Tomorrow is a long time, Dylan once said
but yesterday has the thickest drawl I’ve heard
outside of the future.
