We rounded up Japanese Americans
During the war against Japan
Detained until the war was done
Every child, woman and man
We did not do the same with Germans
The Italians were also spared
The Japanese had darker skin
Narrow eyes and thinner hair
They were considered less than human
They were hated and despised
They had a choice: submit or run
They were suspected as being spies
We did the same to the Cherokee
Though we were not at war
They had land we thought we’d need
Even then we would need more
Even good presidents do bad things
And this is not a good president
He has ordered immigration stings
Children wonder where their parents went
The courts have looked the other way
Just like they have before
They tell us it’s the end of days
And they open up the doors
The Japanese internment camps
The mass deportations
At times we just don’t give a damn
We become a brutal nation
We need to stand up for our own
Our neighbors and ourselves
Let them know they’re not alone
Tell the agents: go to hell!
