It’s All American

Homage to the Author of Nuestra América

After all the hotels and tacky
Casinos, I would have expected
Him to impress his latest Bacchae
With his own name, however wacky,
On those places he had selected.

Gulf of Trump would attract the snowbirds
Fleeing winter weather at Lake Trump.
After all, his unique way with words,
Calculated to offend the nerds,
Never fails to give his fame a bump.

Another surprise: he did not name
Those places after his own nation.
Lake United States would still inflame
World leaders who do not like his game,
Playing Adam in God’s creation.

Instead, he chose a name inclusive
Of everyone on this continent
Nomenclature deeply allusive
To Martí, a poet conclusive:
Pro-América preeminent.

Along with Martí, Bad Bunny calls
For an embrace of América
Where español will fill the great halls
While new nomenclature overhauls
Our nations. ¡A mí me encanta!
