The Current
by J.S. O’Keefe / July 26th, 2026
The tribe tells the drought how
the river forgot its name,
and the wells cracked open—
no other memory remained.
The people live inside a sentence:
the water is a bouncing bird,
flaps its wings, sings its breath.
The legend returns
to the current in the stone.
