Refugees

Injustice is a recurring theme in our world history
Innocents suffer, evildoers prosper, it’s no mystery
A powerful predator will conquer his prey with ease
Turning helpless women and children into refugees

People compelled to submit or face unbearable attack
From more powerful forces and unable to fight back
They endure relentless violence in varying degrees
Only to inevitably become displaced refugees

Forces that destroy entire families are evil and savage
They even consider their victims as collateral damage
They pillage and plunder, their wanton greed to appease
Malevolent assassins who create desperate refugees

It has occurred on Earth in every realm and terrain
In America, Tibet, India, Palestine, Syria, Ukraine
Facing the consequences of war – famine and disease
They begin wandering aimlessly as poor refugees

People flee to avoid political or religious persecution
Escape their oppressors, imprisonment, and execution
They risk a summer heat wave or a harsh winter freeze
Seeking shelter in new lands as pathetic refugees

Weeping and wailing, obliged to leave their home
Seeking refuge from “civilized” countries, they roam
Finding only closed borders, they fall to their knees
What’s worse – the attack or “Keep out, refugees!”?

Judgment day is coming…
