An ancient Palestinian proverb warns those in need against resorting to injurious solutions: “Do not drink poison to quench a thirst,” it advises.
Wise words indeed. But merely a week after the Earth shook, some had their ears so clogged with Stars-and-Stripes diktats that they weren’t listening, preferring to gulp down some putrid poison by inviting genocidal Zionists into Venezuela as part of the post-earthquake response.
As flexes go, this one was unforeseen. Nothing says ‘I got muscle’ like pulling off the once-unthinkable and putting IDF boots on the ground in what was previously an anti-Zionist cauldron, all under the stomach-churning and clearly tricksy pretext of “rebuilding” Venezuela.
Indisputably aligned with the kingpins banging out the orders of Venezuela’s earthquake response’s agenda, the flex shook the ground beneath Venezuelan revolutionaries’ feet for the third time in a week, catching them paralyzed by national mourning and unable to offer much resistance.
Who is here?
The roughly 30-person “team of experts” touched down in Valencia City on July 1. According to official rhetoric – take it as you will – the Zionist delegation is led by IDF Home Front Command’s Brigade General Elad Edri and Israel’s Ambassador to Mexico Yoed Magen representing the Foreign Ministry.
It also reportedly includes the National Emergency Management Authority (part of Israel’s Ministry of Defense) and Zaka Disaster Victim Identification Agency (an ultra-orthodox group that works alongside Israeli police and has been caught up in misinformation spreading and sexual scandals in the past). Tagging along are Israeli NGOs Ready for Rescue and SmartAID, an Israeli tech start-up that claims a 17-person search and rescue team that, having arrived 7 days after the disaster when first responder activities were all but done, is allegedly working on “the next phase of the humanitarian response” in telecoms, energy and water systems.

Let there be no doubt: these are not doctors, nurses or K9 handlers. This is a team led by Israeli government officials and the IDF, with close links to the Defense Ministry and Police.
Team Genocide, as it has been dubbed, received a red carpet from Delcy’s government. It was practically the only one of dozens of international response teams eulogized by her in an international press conference, and met both Venezuelan military and political leaders straight off, including Delcy herself. “I hope we can continue to move forward,” she told them, thanking them time and again for coming.
Sickening irony
Any search & rescue personnel (if they are indeed so) in Team Genocide have largely been ignored in press reports from both sides, with great focus placed on it purportedly being tasked to “rehabilitate infrastructure and evaluate its state”. This mandate was quickly extended after Delcy requested so to Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar and Bibi green-lit the idea. The Zionists will now (reportedly) be “mapping” and implementing a “reconstruction plan.”

The irony of the masters of destruction, of pain, and of apartheid being tasked with rebuilding Venezuela has not been lost on anyone.
Just since 2023, the IDF has destroyed over 90% of all buildings in Gaza, 11,000 buildings in Lebanon, dropped 18,000 bombs on Iran, and conducted over 1,000 airstrikes and raids on Syria. Yeah, sounds like they are the right guys for the job of rebuilding Venezuela for sure.
As such, and given Israel’s turbid trend of using aid as a cover for Mossad ops, many are questioning if they really are who they say they are. Are they agents hunting down Venezuelan-Lebanese, Syrians, or Palestinians? Or maybe they seek to establish a commercial footprint in the country based in the construction industry to then expand and build creeping settlements?
Only time will tell, but regardless of their real objectives, what’s under the hood of this mission goes well beyond construction.
Delcy’s rapprochement with Zionism?
Praising the delegation, war criminal Bibi Netanyahu claimed his team is “reconstructing ruins and also reconstructing relations (…) show[ing] the Venezuelan people the true face of the Israeli State.” Hah!
Venezuela broke relations with the Zionist state in 2009 when Hugo Chavez astutely accused it of committing genocide in Gaza. Since then, there have been no diplomatic relations, no talks, no trade, and no exchanges. Until Delcy (read Trump) started calling the shots.
The IDF-led delegation, part of a fast-track response to the earthquake “opportunities” in the context of disaster capitalism at its best, is not the first tremor in this ground-shaking political shift.
Hot off his father’s illegal kidnapping by US troops (who are also back on the ground in Venezuela) in January, Maduro’s son Nicolasito – himself a leading member of Delcy’s ruling PSUV party – made headlines by arguing at an evangelical Christian event for Venezuela to reestablish relations with Tel Aviv.
In February, Bloomberg reported that Venezuela’s state oil corporation PDVSA – like the rest of the state apparatus now under US tutelage – had started selling oil to Israel again by sending a shipment to Haifa’s Bazan refinery. The news, despite being predictably denied by Delcy, worryingly suggested that US-led Venezuela might be a complicit fuel supplier of the Zionist genocide in the Middle East and West Asia.
Shortly after, Caracas’ statement on the US-Israeli attacks on Iran condemned Tehran’s response without mentioning the Zionist bombing. It was quickly removed from Foreign Ministry press channels.

One month later in March, Delcy broke new political ground by first sending a personalized Passover message to Venezuela’s minuscule Jewish community (circa 4,000) and later receiving its leaders – including Venezuela’s Israeli Association chief and Zionist point man Rabbi Isaac Cohen – to the Presidential Palace for a live event many understood to be an investment-seeking fiesta, in which she stated that the country can be a “sanctuary” for folks like Cohen.
This rapprochement fits with Zionism’s continental offensive, which has seen it establish important frontier outposts in Argentina, Bolivia and Colombia on the trainwreck of the social-democratic ‘Pink Tide’. But in Venezuela’s case, it will surely impact our historic ties to important anti-Zionist actors such as the Iranian and Turkish governments, as well as the sizable Lebanese (circa 400,000), Syrian (circa 1 million), and Palestinian (circa 15,000) communities in the country – factors which played important roles in side-stepping US sanctions in the past.
Likewise, it widens the Grand Canyon-size chasm between the government and the Venezuelan people even wider, further alienating grassroots revolutionaries and ramping up criticisms of the Delcy administration and its now-clear subordination to the White House.
And it also blows the whistle (once again) on the Goebbels-like work of government propaganda fear factories, which ironically rolled out all the stops in 2024 to warn the electorate that the main anti-government candidate and ridiculous pro-Israel lackey Maria Corina Machado – who was leading the polls at the time – would invite the Zionists into Venezuela.
Popular kickback
Fast-forward two years, and photos of Delcy-invited Zionist generals on the ground in Caracas, fresh off the back of bombing Gaza or Lebanon, have caused widespread outrage.
For some government backers, the move crosses a red line. For others, it’s just more damning evidence in a lengthy dossier on Delcy’s protectorate policies and “imperialist dominion” over the country.

But as with $1 monthly wages or Labor Law reform – which I have explained in previous Venezuela Flex columns – a Zionist presence in the country chafes the bone of Chavista consciousness and exposes intrinsic, fragmentary contradictions both within the ruling PSUV and between the current administration and Hugo Chavez’s policies.
While all of us anti-Zionists once found common ground with the PSUV/government in this field, today that same anti-Zionism places us firmly in sharp opposition to it. As such, the presence of Team Genocide in Venezuela only strengthens the diverse revolutionary anti-government bloc.
So should we drink poison to quench our thirst?
Let’s be clear: Venezuela’s “thirst” is next level. It’s tragic, cataclysmic; it is (at the time of writing) 4,500+ dead, 17,000+ injured, 18,000+ homeless, and we-don’t-know-how-many-thousands missing. And it’s supercharged by Venezuelan authorities’ lack of preparation.
So does this justify drinking Zionist poison?
Someone dragged from the rubble certainly doesn’t care if it’s a Colombian, Chilean, US Marine, or Syrian White Helmet hand saving them. But let’s remember that Team Genocide arrived as the life-saving Search and Rescue phase was winding down and is comprised mainly of (reportedly) second-phase military engineers.
So where are the circa 120,000 Venezuelan civil engineers or those from the multitude of countries which sent earthquake help but aren’t war-crime complicit? Was there no one else to do the job, no other way to quench the thirst? Why the Zionists?
Given over-compensatory government efforts to “thank” Team Genocide, all while tacitly sidelining other teams’ contributions in public discourse, as well as all that’s gone down since January 3 and the quick rebuttal given to other offers to oversee Venezuela’s rebuild, I can only assume Israel’s presence is a priority for Delcy’s government. She and her masters – the Orange President and his rabid Cuban-American henchman – saw an opening to advance their toxic agenda.
That’s how disaster capitalism works. The thirst of the moment presents the opportunity. The sheer necessity of the disaster provides the excuse, and the poison’s side effects of market penetration, transfer of authority and resources, displacement of competitors, and whitewashing of crimes or corruption are all camouflaged beneath headlines of “assistance” and the sheer girth of the human loss.
Yet as the Palestinians well know, poison is always toxic, and something tells me that we are yet to grasp the full malady of the side effects of this long-term, suspended release, putrid Zionist venom.
¡Palestina y Venezuela libres, carajo!
