When I devote my heart and soul to share the truth at large
People I love tell me repeatedly, “It won’t change a thing”
They say, “Even Truth can’t conquer the wicked in charge
Be they in the figure of president, prime minister, or king”
So I beseech them for a renewed effort to avoid autocracy
Yet they determinedly reiterate, “It won’t change a thing”
I’m an idealist, I point out that we still live in a democracy
‘We the people’ must elect honest leaders to ease the sting
Our mission is plain, Truth will educate and enlighten us
They reply, “You’ll be hurt, and it won’t change a thing”
Despite the risks, we cannot let the oppressor frighten us
Otherwise we will limp off wounded, our arms in a sling
I recall the unity of our rallies in the sixties and seventies
They say, “It was admirable, but it won’t change a thing”
Now we flaccidly witness the genocide of the Levantines
That’s excused and funded by the bloodthirsty right wing
Hey! The left is more guilty, giving Israel carte blanche
They shush me, “Can’t say that, it won’t change a thing”
But they’re the only undeclared nuclear threat to launch
Their level of brutality is worse than the days of Beijing
Hark! Own the Truth or this dilemma won’t be solved
They insist, “It’s all in futility! It won’t change a thing!”
But I’ll be true to my faith and remain firmly resolved
Every movement for justice needs a vision and a spring
