Simply a Visionary

This poem was inspired by my attendance at an event presented by Wounded Warriors and other patriotic organizations to honor our servicemen and women. Something stirred in my soul that evening when I met so many wounded veterans who in good faith made sacrifices only to benefit our evil, misguided leaders and their war machine.

I attended a musical celebration
To entertain folks of the military
I quietly kept to my humble station
Persisting simply as a visionary
I witnessed the victims of tribulation
Who thus far avoided the cemetery
Yet they’re pawns in a game of exploitation
Being used to fight a mock adversary

The boy in the wheelchair held his libation
Feigning a smile, nursing his Bloody Mary
He traded both legs for a token citation
For his faithful service as a legionary
The mongers who staged this farce for our nation
Smile like the cat that swallowed the canary
They sow evil seed, but shall reap damnation
While to their fated end they dwell unwary

As the night drew further toward aberration
I noticed that girls were now customary
Women in uniform span the duration
Adding more fodder to injure or bury
Shameless, they tapped the female population
Hucksters and Bastards! How long must they tarry!
Dear God in heaven! Please ease my frustration!
Commit these devils to the mortuary

The evening cut deep into consternation
Yet I remain simply a visionary…
