Drowning Country

Black nights roving across the unraveling chasm;
            Callow memories burning upon a ghost that
Called. The dawn cascading, unwept the wraithlike
            Wolds, primordial rang the knell – the chilling
Chimes of Tartarus. Waning suns interregnum, trapped

Beneath the gyre – evanescing danced the candle –
            A devil’s kiss upon the main. The terrors of the altar,
Blinding throes that gripped the lamb, hemorrhaging
            Was the maiden, an ebbing of cruel shadows.
Natheless bonds thusly rent unto the doom-drenched

Body, black blood burning – ramparts imploding –
            Engorged upon the plains. And beyond that scarlet
Sepulcher, where diluvian demons groaned, bespoke the
            Book burner howling, the gun runner cackling, the
Murderer scowling, the drug dealer lurking, Feminisis raving;

Remorseless ghouls grinning over gruesome scarlet
            Clouds, that dripped their crimson dew, deathly drops
That fell like rain on pallid ground. The cyclops emboldened,
            Of pitiless sallow eye, the ghostly cataract, mangled
Minds hovering across the Stygian waters. Pernicious

Screens that bore the drowning of dappled dreams, vultures
            Unbowed across transcendent roads cerulean; each
Screen a poisoned chalice – fire in the nave – blood-red
            Wine where angels wept unto the maelstrom. Mystic
Moons dissolving – land of mobsters and sadists – impenitent

They were one. Insensate zone where pitiless ravens
            Roam, lilac gloaming, the wave now spent, an azure tide
Bathed of blessed ewe. And the youths, they were howling,
            Unwept their pleas and sighs – shattered souls lost beyond
Amnesia’s haunted haze and harrowing brimstone cries
