Trust generous trees
to shade us summers, share fruit
all around in fall.
Trust extrovert birds
to sing their hearts out, lift up
spirits without fail.
Trust nature to strive
under fire, flood, trauma to
revive, recover.
Trust children even
in darkest times to remind
us we are human.
Don’t trust our rulers,
thieves, killers waging war on
dignity, freedoms;
who divide, conquer,
turn us against our own dear
sisters and brothers;
who plunder the land,
destroy the planet, threaten
our very future;
those who claim to be
on the people’s side, don’t trust
their promises, lies.
Trust who tells the truth,
sees beyond madness to a
world worthy of us.
