Normalcy
by Ananya S. Guha / August 30th, 2026
Things are serene outside
Is everything normal
How do we explain normalcy?
Is it the dictum of the govt machinery?
The hills look the same
How can things not be normal?
As puddles of water form in roads
The rains are normal
The streets are normal
The cars move normally
Yet why do people say that things
Are not normal?
Just because cars were attacked
The other day?
The newspaper says that the town
Is ‘limping back to normalcy’?
How many times has this town
Felt such abnormal fits?
Is violence not a part of normal history?
I step out to witness what the hills
Feel about this ‘normalcy’
